On September 29-30, 2016, The University of Texas at Austin held its first international Black Studies Conference, Black Matters: The Futures of Black Scholarship and Activism. The inaugural event explored the role of activism in scholarship throughout the Black Diasporas. The biennial conference highlighted the work of Black Studies faculty and graduate students, and introduces Black Studies at UT to national and international audiences.
